Antique Italian painting from the first half of the 17th century. Oil artwork on canvas depicting an allegorical subject, Game of cherubs, of excellent pictorial quality. Painting of beautiful size and proportion adorned with a non-coeval 19th century wooden frame, carved and gilded (gilding resumed in the 20th century). Painting that develops horizontally from the particular subject, in fact the cherubs delight in the game of war with soldiers and prisoner and fake wooden swords abandoned at their feet (see photo). Artwork of great pictorial quality, note how the characters are distributed on different perspective planes of the composition. Furthermore, the creation of the flesh tones and the skilful use of chiaroscuro denote great mastery. Painting attributable to the Neapolitan painter Massimo Stanzione (1585-1656), lacking additional documentation. Painting that has undergone conservative restoration, relining, replacement of the frame and recovery of color in some places (see photo). Overall in good condition. Sight size H 64 x W 81 cm.
