The large basin of typical circular form, set on a high, slightly splayed, ring foot, with applied handles to the tall walls of the body, and an everted mouth with rolled rim. An attractive patina of mottled green malachite covers the surface of the bronze.
The basin is plain, save for the pair of handles that sick out on either side. The handles of elegant curved form with ruyi (yeo ui) shaped terminals. The handles have been riveted to the body for strength, with the rivets visible to the interior.
The interior of the basin with a very unusual and attractive patina with almost wave-like patterns. The heavily oxidized dark bronze base shows through, creating a nice contrast against the green patina.
The unusually large size of this basin indicates it was most likely used in a temple setting, probably for purification and cleansing rituals and ceremonies.
The basin can still hold water, and is watertight.
