I will do my best to describe this beautiful set accurately! This is a set of 16th and 17th century framed engravings. The engravings are on paper. The plates were from, “Armamentarium Heroicum”, by the Bavarian engraver Jakob Schrenck von Notzing, a member of a highly regarded family of engravers. The engravings depict famous male figures of the day. They were later framed in London in wood frames with some sort of applied faux tortoise veneer. The giltwood is a lovely water gilt that is in very good condition.
