A very good looking and classily designed William IV piece, this chair has the look of the early Gillows chairs, if you google Regency Gillows armchair you will see what I mean. The look and feel is absolutely timeless, this chair looks wonderful in any setting.
It is signed to the bottom in pencil William on one side and what looks like Pouliot on the other, it might be the makers name or perhaps the customer it was commissioned for
The chair reclines as you can see in the pictures, it has a pull out, height adjustable footstool, the reading slope is fully articulated and again, height adjustable, this chair really is quite sublime and in amazing condition
This is the only one of its type I have ever seen with the reading slope still in place, it is a work of art and would cost an absolute fortune to have made today
The chair has been fully restored to include being freshly upholstered with new English leather, it has been hand dyed six times, antiqued, sealed and waxed down, it is an fine a condition as you could hope to find a piece like this
