A gorgeously patinated bronze pedestal offering tray, talam, Central Javanese Period, Java, 8th-10th century.
The offering tray of beautiful form and proportions, with a splayed and stepped foot rising to a waisted pedestal supporting the circular, high walled tray with an everted rim. Undecorated save for a series of banded lines.
The ritual vessel displaying a gorgeous patina of verdigris, with iron stains, small areas of azurite, and traces of gilding to the rim.
Vessels such as this were used in ritual contexts to make offerings in temple worship.
