Many museums, churches and headquarters house the works of the designer of Scandinavian modernist lighting Carl Fagerlund. First a professor of illustration, Fagerlund turned to the world of the design of lighting in the 1940s, with the advantage of having an artist’s eye. Today, its table lamps, chandeliers, appliques and other lights enrich the houses and continue to captivate collectors from around the world.
Fagerlund is best known for her work at Verrerie Orrefors, a legendary Småland glassware which was recognized worldwide for its products after having presented a range of decorative objects and art glass at the international exhibition of decorative and industrial arts Modern from 1925 – The huge design exhibition that made Art Deco known to the whole world. Fagerlund joined Orrefors in 1946 and, for more than three decades, he designed suspensions, recessed lighting, a range of Murano glass works and other complex lights: the environment of the middle of the century.
Fagerlund’s creations are found in Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde, a “castle” museum which was once the private residence of royalty, the Sweden Embassy in Tokyo and at the headquarters of General Motors, U.S.A. in Detroit, Michigan.
