A country late 17th century bureau from England, in wonderful condition for its age. The desk has a drop down front with original large hinges and a terrific configuration of small drawers and cubbies inside. The oak is rich in wear and patina. Beautiful delicate handles, probably original. There is a lovely shaped apron in the kneehole.
We believe this to be the country version of a more refined and ornate piece. The rougher interpretation is charming and unique. The writing surface is good, at 29.5″ high, with no apron and 10.5″ overhang to compensate for the narrow kneehole. This desk has good historic and decorative value.
