An exceptional hanging lantern clock from the 17th Century. The clock is housed within a hooded glass case with Grecian style carved columns, gadrooning and acanthus scrolled accents. Features a brass face with Roman Numerals, brass hands and a pierced brass pediment with inward facing cherubs, a rooster and central figure. The works are not marked, but appear to be English.
The time piece and case rest on a one of a kind life like figural hand carved oak corbel pedestal centererd by a high relief Bird / Griffon. The chains and pendulum are concealed inside of the animal and can be seen below. Case backing is is bordered by scrolling acanthus leaves. Hangs along the back via a large Iron hook.
