A very good looking and classily designed Regency piece, this chair has the look of the early Gillows chairs, if you google Regency Gillows armchair you will see what I mean. The look and feel is absolutely timeless, this chair looks wonderful in any setting.
The front line of timber is very sculptural and flows effortlessly, I think its early Cuban Mahogany based on the patina, which was used by Gillow’s, the legs are very ornate and hand carved from single pieces of wood.
This is the only one of its type I have ever seen with the reading slope still in place, it is a work of art and would cost an absolute fortune to have made today
The chair has been fully restored to include being freshly upholstered with new English leather, this is called russet hide leather which means its upholstered plain then hand dyed six times, antiqued, sealed and waxed down, it is an fine a condition as you could hope to find a piece like this
