Walnut wood
Made of a beautiful walnut, this round table has four folding leaves. It rests on four elegant ringed columns, connected by a moulded X-shaped crosspiece, and resting on four flattened ball feet.
The square-section top is assembled with interlocking joints. On each side is a hinged, circular flap. On the reverse side, an ingenious sliding system allows the flaps to be held open, while four cleats keep them folded.
Four tops on the belt complete the ornamentation and provide a counterpoint to the strict lines of the table.
This table with folding flaps is a rare example of furniture that enriched the homes of the great Lords. Thanks to this system of flaps, this square table becomes a very beautiful round table. This makes it a useful and decorative piece of furniture.
The refinement of the assembly, of perfect quality of execution, illustrates the sober refinement typical of the Second French Renaissance.
